COMMUNITY ACTION

From time to time, some or all of us may feel called to action that serves the interests of the whole community, or a section of it (see the NEWS section of the Menu).  But no-one's obliged or expected to be involved in such action; indeed, the Forum places no obligations on any of its participants, beyond a basic allegiance to the values mentioned above.

We use the word community here to mean everyone (adult or child) who lives within the remit of Basildon Borough Council, and not just self-confessed people of faith.  The word community applies also people who pass through, to visitors,  and to people who work in Basildon Borough but live elsewhere.

The interests we serve are those of the whole community, and of course of its many individual parts or sections, however  decided:  socially, politically, religiously or in other ways. We aim to serve everyone with integrity, in good faith, and without fear or favour.

Because the Basildon Forum of Faith shares purposes and values with other inter-faith agencies in Essex, in the regions (South East and East of England), and more widely, we use the term 'wider community' to mean people who live outside the Borough, although our focus is always the local one described above.

THE 'EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE'

This small committee is elected by Forum participants attending its Annual General Meeting.  Its purpose is to help Forum participants to shape and give effect to their decisions about how the Forum works, and - in particular - what action they may wish to take in the interests of the wider community.  The committee comprises a Chairman, a Vice-Chairman who deputises for the Chairman in her/his absence; an Honorary Secretary; an Honorary Treasurer; and other members drawn from the body of Forum participants.  The Executive Committee publishes minutes of its meetings and these are available in the LIBRARY section of this site.
