ABOUT US

Faith forums look to advance the contribution of faith communities, to encourage partnerships and to challenge injustice and discrimination.

Basildon Forum of Faiths was set up in 2008 as a meeting place for people of faith, especially for people who follow one of the 'world religions', so we can get together to share, learn, and grow in trust and friendship.   The Forum is sponsored and supported by Basildon Borough Council. We have no political agenda.   Fellowship and a willingness to serve the local community are the primary purposes of the Forum.

The symbols on this page are those of the major 'world religons'.  Reading clockwise from the left (and in random order) these are:  Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, Hinduism, and Christianity.  For clarity's sake we've used the recognised English-language terms used, sometimes inaccurately, for these religions, and not necessarily the terms used or recognised by their followers.  We acknowledge that some may think this insensitive, so invite your indulgence in the matter.

Of course, there are many other religions that people follow, and the fact that they are not represented in our list above doesn't reflect on their validity, about which we make no judgements. And we recognise that many people of faith follow no set religion or spiritual path.  The Forum of Faiths doesn't exclude anyone on the basis of their beliefs or religious affiliation, or their lack of them.

Some participants are chosen representatives of a particular faith community; others make no claims to represent anything or anyone other than themselves.  All have equal status in the Forum.

We welcome anyone who shares our universal values of respect for life, freedom, equality before the law; respect for the human dignity and personhood of all, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, belief, mental capacity, sexual orientation, or other apparent distinction or 'difference'.  To check this out in more depth, go to the Menu list and OUR VALUES.

You can just turn up at a meeting, and be very welcome.  Monthly meetings are quite small and friendly (not more than 15-20 individuals), and refreshments are served.   But it's worth making contact beforehand in case a meeting is cancelled or held at a different venue from the advertised one.  If you need a lift, that can often be arranged with a same-sex driver.  There is no charge for attending.
