Join the Bilco!

  • Do you like playing golf for fun?

  • Are you thinking about taking up golf on a more frequent basis?

  • Do you want to improve your chances of winning the Purple Helmet?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then the Bilco is just the kind of thing you are looking to take part in.

What is the Bilco?

  • The Bilco is a winter league for golfers of all standards.

  • The Bilco Winter League is not an exclusive club. If you have paid your membership then you are welcome to play. See the notes below for the various membership rates that are available.

  • There is no age restriction in the Bilco. In recent years golfers aged from 13 to 80+ have played in the Bilco.

  • The Bilco is played on a Sunday morning at 9am and the Bilco members have access to all 18 holes on the course.

  • The Bilco season is from the start of October until the first week in April.

  • The entry fee for the Bilco is £15 for the season.

  • Because of the open and friendly nature of the Bilco many present members of the Orkney Golf Club first joined the club as a Bilco member.

ABC golfers that have played in the Bilco over the years are Derek Aiken, Graham Bell, Keith Brumpton, Mick Harcus, Bryan Hay, Ross Donaldson, Jack Moodie, Stu Slater, Johnny Russell and Vince Walls and currently Derek Manson, Merv Tiger Ward, Tubber Brough, James McConnachie, Pete McKinlay, Ronnie Paterson, Paul Kemp, Bruce Moar, Muldoo and Stoff still enjoy the craic on a Sunday morning in their fourball.

It should also be noted that Derek Aiken, Paul Kemp, Vince Walls, Mick Harcus and Stoff have all enjoyed varying degrees of success at the Bilco over the years.

What about trying to get a fourball together? It's great fun!
One of the Bilco’s regular fourballs each took the time to give us a quote for the website . . .

I’ll play through the pain barrier just to play the Bilco on a Sunday morning with my mates!
GM, Kirkwall

Its great playing on a crisp Sunday morning, it fairly blows the cobwebs away and if it gets too cold then I just wrap up and put my winter gloves on to keep warm.
KS, Kirkwall

It’s a great way to start a Sunday morning. It’s not unusual to go home from golf on a Sunday feeling more refreshed than when you arrived.
PK, Kirkwall

I work every second week so I really appreciate getting up early on my Sundays off and going for a game and a laugh with my pals.
BM, Kirkwall
