Venue

by The Management - 18:58 on 13 October 2009

We're thinking about changing the venue for the ABC next year and we'd like your thoughts. It might not make any difference to what our decision will be but it would be nice to know what you think anyway!

Going to South Ronaldsay is one option. We last played there in 2006 and they were good hosts. They were more than happy with us playing there and said we'd be welcome back anytime.

Another option is Sanday. We can get to Sanday and back in one day and theoretically you would probably be home earlier than if you played in Kirkwall. The boat departs Kirkwall in the morning at 7.40am and arrives back in Kirkwall at 7.40pm. In a lot of ways it may actually be easier than going to South Ronaldsay. Once the boat leaves we will know the numbers so the draw can be made before we even get to Sanday. I'm sure with our ABC Sanday connections we would be treated regally!!

Of course there is the option of playing in Kirkwall again. Logistically it is the easiest for us and they do give us an excellent deal for non members. There is the use of the kitchen and bar too which is handy.

We're (kind of) open to ideas so let us know what you're thinking!

Lads.
I think Sanday is a cracking idea, never played there before so would be an experience, par 35,2600 yards, should present a good test as well. As you say all the formalities could be sorted on the boat allowing for an almost immediate tee off on arrival, leaving plenty time for post golf activities. Good idea, I would certainly be up for that!!

Here is another idea after a few drams obviously, we could all go out on the Friday night just to be totally organised.
YEHA!

It feels like I am the only member who has access to this site! The "do Rons" need to get some marketing guroo involved to spread the word! Sanday would be great, but a 0740 hrs start could see some casualties early on and maybe the Hope might be a better bet for the tour lasting till 2000 hrs????

Interesting point Ram Jam.
I wonder who the first casualty would be?
Anyone want to open a book on that one?

For those that weren't in attendence at the ABCVI we held a ballot to vote for possible venues and virgin nominees for the 2011 ABC. The ballot box has since been opened and the votes counted.

There were some varied and very interesting nominations for both but the most popular nominations for the venue were Sanday, Westray and South Ronaldsay closely followed by Thurso, Stromness, Kirkwall and Shetland. Other venues worthy of a mention were Inverness, Golspie, Granton on Spey, Brora and Reay and the slightly more outrageous suggestions were Dornoch, Newmacher, St.Andrews, Monte Carlo, Las Vegas and Dubai.

There was a very varied selection of nominees for a virgins invite with Lesley Mulraine, Keith Corsie, Ali Findlater, Paul Lawrie and Hatamoa among the many contenders.

The Management will ponder over the suggestions and make a decision in due course.

It has long since been decided that the 2011 ABC will be played in South Ronaldsay on Saturday 17th September.

The invites will be sent out soon.

Committee

I know it is early days yet. Have you had any thoughts on dates and possible locations for ABC IX, would hate to miss it and therefore need to get holidays booked as early as possible.

Cheers.
