An Hour’s Stroll Through Brixworth’s Past
by Ashby Rambler - 09:34 on 11 July 2017
The Rambler recently took advantage of the fine weather to explore the Brixworth Heritage Trail.
The Trail officially begins at The Pound which is a small green area opposite The Coach and Horses pub at the junction between the High Street and Harborough Road where you will find the excellent information board and map of the 30 buildings of interest.
In fact, the best place to start is Brixworth Library where you can obtain a free copy of the necessary map and information on parking, toilets available refreshments etc. before embarking on the trail proper.
The Rambler, who thought he knew quite a bit about Brixworth’s history until he read the 30 smart, informative blue plaques was (not for the first time!) entirely mistaken.
There is a wealth of detail and local knowledge available which combines to create a fascinating glimpse into the social and economic history of the village.
If you have an hour to spare after completing one of the local walks or visiting the Country Park do take advantage of the time and effort which Brixworth Heritage Group (see comments below) has clearly invested in this successful project.
The trail is, of course, featured on the History Society's website hence my mistake which I've now corrected.
Am I right in thinking you were the driving force behind the project?
If so ... many thanks and congratulations on the Heritage Group's achievement!
