Another mystery

Although we've managed to identify most of the old apple trees in the garden (those planted between 1896 and 1904), a few of them remain a mystery. This photograph shows one old tree planted against the old (18th century) wall. Three apples have been produced from one of the spindly shoots growing from a very knarled trunk. Ken has sent photographs and a description of the tree to the Fruit Identification unit of the Brogdale Horticultural Trust. He thinks the apple may be a Worcester Permain or Lord Rosebury. We'll see if he's guessed correctly!
P.S. Completely wrong. Brogdale says it's a McIntosh Red!
