Feeding time for the fledgling
We knew that we'd be rewarded if we waitied patiently and kept the nutfeeder topped-up. Sure enough, this week the first of the fledgling woodpeckers appeared at the feeder outside our kitchen window. At first, the large, young one waited in a branch above the feeder which rather obscured our view. But, today the baby bird sat on a bare branch, cleary visible as he waited for his nuts — bobbing around and even taking a tentative 'peck' at the tree trunk.
