It's time to start baking
Starting today, it's 'Bramley Apple Pie Week'. I'm not very good at making pie crusts, so I concentrate my efforts this time of year in making apple crumbles. My favourite recipe takes just over one kg of thinly-sliced apples (mixed with a bit of flour, sugar and cinnamon) and topped with a crumble mixture of flour, porridge oats, brown sugar, butter and chopped pecans. It's best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but we we've been known to eat leftovers for breakfast with a dollop of natural yoghurt!
