A ginkgo tale

Shortly after we arrived in Cromarty, we heard the story of the ginkgo tree that had been growing against the house  — ignored — until it was discovered by a passing horticulturalist. He was amazed to find a Ginkgo biloba so far north in Scotland, and soon news of 'the most northerly ginkgo in Britain' appeared in the local press. Alas, during the restoration of our house, the tree was uprooted and discarded. When we appeared on the scene, all that remained was a photocopy of the newspaper article.

Ken was determined to replace the tree so that Cromarty could retain its horticultural distinction! He planted a new speciman at the far end of the garden where it has been growing for the past 14 years until today when he and Colin moved it to a spot against the west-facing wall of the herb garden.
