Today 1st July 2014, the anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme we remember Private William Billam (18687) who served with the Yorkshire Regiment. William was killed in action on 1st July 1916 and is buried in the Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, Mametz. He was the son of Mrs. Elizabeth Billam, of Hinderwell and husband of Ada Elizabeth Billam, of Hinderwell, Yorks. William was the great uncle of Patricia Quiney-Billam’s husband and Patricia has stitched his square which can be seen in the Gallery.
