Writing in the Sand

Something dreadful is about to happen on the Dark Island.

Jimmy Bervie is worried. He is raking the sand on the beach, hoping that the fall of the sand-grains will show him the future.

Alice is worried. She is sending her niece, Doreen, into the Drooping Cave to seek visions from the Goddess.

Reverend Dumfry is worried. He delivers a scandalous sermon one Sunday, then leaves the church, searching for the Hand of God.

George is not worried. He is part of the problem. In any case, he has just miraculously disappeared.

Only through extraordinary feats of muscular strength, manual dexterity and the triple-killed sacrifice of a crow can disaster be averted – if at all.
