Updated Deember 2020
Thank you for your support of the Society, our research, local activities, and upholding the requirements of the Conservation Area.
Due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions, the 2020/2021 programme of indoor talks with guest speakers is going ahead via Zoom. In order to pay speaker fees and the monthly Zoom subscription we are now collecting subscription renewals. We apologise to those that can't do zoom, but there is really no alternative at present, and in any event you will continue to receive your Newsletters, now rebranded Wollaton Historical.
At the 2020 AGM it was unanimously agreed to increase the membership fee to £7.50 per person per year from April 2021. Payment details will be available nearer the date.
Around 80-120 members and visitors were attending indoor meetings featured in our programme and there is currently a limit of only 40 at the Community Centre. Therefore we have no alterantive to using Zoom. We are delighted that we are having around 60 - 70 participants at the Zoom meetings.
The summer walks programme attract between 30-50 members and visitors who come along to enjoy the summer walks and local history information provided by the walk leader. We are hopeful that we can again include walks in our programme in 2021 but this relies on any ongoing Coronavirus restrictions.
As a member you will receive the Summer and Winter newsletters each year which report on Society activities and also feature articles about an aspect of Wollaton buildings and history. Please have a look at the Newsletter and Archive pages and scroll down to see excerpts from recent newsletters. (That page is currently under re-construction so please bear with us until the content is completed). Newsletters are delivered by our team of volunteers, but otherwise a copy will be sent in the post.
In addition to the benefits for yourself, by joining the Society you are:
- Helping to support conservation of archive material such as historic documents, maps and drawings
- Conservation of the Dovecote Museum, artefacts therein.
- Supporting research projects, surveys, etc.
- Upholding the principles of the Conservation Area.
When we can start indoor meetings again they will be free to members, visitors fee £2.
Walks are free to everyone, but occasionally a small charge needs to be made to cover costs (eg when an entrance fee is applicable). All walks are local and led by an experienced, knowledgeable guide. Occasionally booking is necessary or restricted to members only due to a limitation on numbers.
