                          Campaign to Improve Trade.

Moves are in the offing to create ways of improving market trade. At the moment there are few Tuesday traders and Tuesday is the original Royal Charter Market day for Wokingham Market. Thursday is the second originally appointed Royal Charter day there.

There is no shortage of traders - that is not a problem. The problem is a distinct lack of customers. The quality of goods is high. The standards of traders there are high. Where are the customers?

Recently, the Town Council has added a space to Facebook for the Market mentioning, on each market day, which market traders to expect and the products/produce that will be displayed.

Those who cannot be bothered with the market would be beside themselves and have pink fits if the Royal Charter were ever revoked with no traders bothering to turn up because there is nothing to gain from setting up their stalls. It is almost 800 yeaers since King Henry III granted the Royal Charter to Wokingham Market. 1227 is the official date of signing once the King came of age (21). Moves were made in 1219/20 but could not be completed for 7 years, which means the 800th anniversary will be in 2027.
