Wokingham Town Council.
The Town Council is headed by the Town Mayor and the administration is headed by the Town Clerk.
In Market Place, the Market Superintendent organizes the pitches and collects the Toll money. He has other duties around the Town Centre which he shares with his assistant.
The Information Centre is in the Town Hall on the ground floor for anyone requiring assistance.
The Town Council offices are upstairs in the Town Hall and the Mayor's Charity Market is held in the Great Hall upstairs each year.
During Market hours, The Town Council closes the Market Place to traffic. Traders need to remove their own vehicles between certain hours and only Emergency and essential specialist vehicles can use the roadway.
The Town was granted the Royal Charter by the King in 1219 for Market days on Tuesdays and, later, Thursdays, However, as the King,Henry III, was under age (14 at the time, 21 being the age to attain) the Town had to wait until 1227 before the King could sign the Royal Charter).
The 800th anniversary is looming up in 13 years from now. (January 2014).
