TASKS FOR APRIL
If you are like me a complete novice, here are some tasks for April. This is intended to be a guide only, the best advice comes from your experienced plot neighbours. Don't be tempted to race ahead like I did last year, sharp frosts are still possible. CS
Prepare - weed seed beds thoroughly and rake over the soil
Plant - 2nd early and main crop potatoes. Onion sets should be planted by the end of the month
Earth up - 1st early potatoes
Prick out seedlings - once young seedlings grown in trays or modules have developed a couple of true leaves, move them into individual pots or larger modules. Use a pencil to lever them gently out of the soil taking care not to damage the roots, always hande them by the leaves not the stem.
Pot on - growing plants, in particular tomatoes are prone to outgrowing their pots, but it's too early to plant out
Build cane supports for climbing beans while the ground is still soft enough to push in canes or stakes easily
