'Oh To Be A TT'

The Tungsten Tigers V The Nest 'A' - 17/09/12
Singles D4-4, Pairs D2-2, Fours W1-0

Well Monday the 17th of September saw the TT's at home to rival The Nest 'A' in the first derby of the new season. Both teams had a full strength squad to choose from apart from our captain Darren Tiffney. When the singles line up was on the board you knew it was going to be a hot game that could go either way.

Up first was James against Nest 'A' stalwart Jason Bonnar. Jason won the bull to gain advantage and wasted no time checking in to give himself a wee lead over James with some steady scores however a brilliant 152 check in put Simo right back in the game. Jason was first to the double but couldnt hit it. A missed 113 check for James looked to give Jase the game however the wee man squandered a vital chance allowing James to get his 'Tail Up' and bash double 16 to give us a 1-0 lead. Mark Tiff took former team mate Chris Froude. Double trouble again cost Tiff giving Chris a 12 dart lead but his consistent scoring managed to catch Chris and get a shot at the double. Although playing well it was not to be as Chris took double 8 to level the game up. Q-School Qualifier, Daz Beveridge got us back in the lead with a very steady performance, missing very little against the on-form Rab Harris. Last weeks Man of the Match, Liam Hughes gave league Veteran Rab Fagan a 9 dart start in what was game of the night. Both players throwing cracking darts with Liam hitting 100 and following with a 180 to get to the double first, Rab kept it nip and tuck and hit the crucial double 10 to bring the game back to 2-2. Ryan 'Muz' Murray took on big Pete Robb in what looked to tasty clash however both players were under par but a couple of steady scores allowed Ryan to take the game with a cracking double 16 with the pressure on. Kenny was up next and on paper the game looked likely to go in favour of the TT's however an off the boil Kenny couldny find his groove and credit to Paul Mason who battled away, hit scores when he needed them and bashed his favourite double 20 on the last dart to give his side a great win and bring the game to 3-3. On form, Vice skipper Lijo was up next against ex Top of the toon player, John Henderson. Lijo continued his brilliant form hitting a 2 tun+ scores and showed immense bottle to bash double 2 on his last dart with John sitting on tops (he even wore his Tiger suit - CHEEKY!!). The final game saw Grant make his TT debut against Joe Malone. Grant started well with some good scoring, Joe followed and it was a very close leg with both players on the double. None could hit the double with a nervous looking Joe failing to hit big numbers. Grant was unlucky hitting the wire on a few attempts but Big Joe eventually took out 3 to give the Nest A a point. 4-4 a fair result.

The Pairs finished 2-2 however we feel a bit hard done by with Tony & Lonie having numerous chances against Jason and Joe. Experience showed as the A team went up 1-0. Darren B and Rossco got us back at 1-1 with a strong perfornance. It was advantage A team as Bones and Fordy lost however Liam and Kenny took the last leg with Liam following Davies 140 with a 140 of his own.

We made it 7 out of 7 in the fours this season with a strong performance from Lijo, Muz, Daz B and Liam. We gave the A team a 12 dart start but a classy 160 check in from Ryan put us back in the lead and we never looked back as Liam left Ryan Tops who stepped up to clock on his 2nd dart and give us the 4's.

Overall a great night of darts with both teams playing well. Cheers.

The TT Mascots with A team player J Bonnar.

Next week: LEAGUE SINGLES - 24/09/12

All the best to all the boys involved.

The Royal 'A' V The Tungsten Tigers - 10/09/12
Singles W5-3, Pairs L3-1, Fours W1-0

We travelled to the Royal to take on Reigning league champions - The Royal 'A'. We knew it would be a tough game but it didn't help matters when on-form Darren Tiffney, Darren Beveridge and Ryan Murray were unable to make the game. Haz also called off last minute and Rossco is away on holiday.

Well the game kicked off as majority of games have went so far this season with The Royal going 2-0 up. James was against the strong Dickie Lewis who finished well. Fordy also had a tough test v big Willie Wishart. Fordy couldnt get going and Willie played well to take it. Kenny got us back in the game with a nice 120 check in, few steady scores then hit the double first time win it. New Signing Liam Hughes played brilliant to level the game at 2-2, another 120 check in with a 140, 137 to take the leg in 19 darts. Danny was up next and depsite some scrappy scoring hit double 6 to put us in the lead at 3-2. Lijo gave us at least a draw, throwing steady and checking out to give us a 4-2 advantage. Mark was very unlucky not to secure the win, having played well couldnt hit double 18 with all hit darts clung to the wire. It was up to the on-form Gary to get us the win against a good player - Colin Peach. Gaz threw steady and despite a close leg, hit double 9 with his last dart for a cracking singles win against the very strong Royal 'A'.

We suffered our 2nd defeat in the pairs this season going down 3-1. Despite losing there was some good darts thrown with Liam and James winning and playing really well.

The fours looked a close one with both teams putting on a strong side. Liam, Lijo, Kenny and James scored well with a few ton+ scores and Kenny narrowly missing a 180 put us a wee bit ahead. The impressive Liam nailed the double first dart to give us another great win and keeps our fours record intact.

Overall, a great result & once again team performance showing a bit of bottle to come from behind once again.

 Match Winner - Gary

Next Game: Robins Nest 'A' (H)

The Tungsten Tigers V Vic Bar 'A' - 03/09/12
Singles W6-2, Pairs W3-1, Fours W1-0

The Tigers welcomed back Kenny, Danny, Gary & Ross for the visit of the Vic Bar A team. The Vic are an experienced mob with some good players and we knew we had to start fast and get rid of this habit of going 2-0 down.

Up first was a tasty clash between our captain Daz and Paul Clever with Daz coming out on top hitting a 125 and following with a brilliant 180, his first of the season - few more where they came from. Next up was last weeks star man Lijo who checked in on 109 but couldnt find the form of recent weeks and was pipped at the double from one of the leagues most avoided players, Andy Scotland. Fordy was up next and it was a hatrick of single wins for the big man hitting double 11. Mark returned to the singles after a long spell of working down south. He was unlucky after throwing 3 great darts to leave tops but never got a shot at it. Kenny got us back in front before Danny made it 4-2 showing a bit of bottle with his opponent bashing scores of 80, 180, 85. Darren B ensured we got the win with a 121 and following with very steady scoring, leaving his opponent way behind. Ryan (Muz) completed the win with a strong performance nearly grannying Rab then tried to clock 40 with 2x Double 10's! Cheeky!!! Another good singles win making it 5 on the bounce.

We got back to winning ways in the pairs following last weeks result v the Bowling Club. Darren B and Tony got us off to a winning start with some solid scores. Bones and Stevie were unlucky with Paul and Billy playing really well, Paul clocking a 180 - the 3rd of the night. Daz and Ross put us back in the lead with a neat 61 finish from Daz. Kenny and Gary got us the victory with a very good performance, Gary throwing brilliantly.

The TT 4 looked scary with Daz, Darren B, Ryan & Kenny our lineup however none could find the treble 20 and we were wacked with a 140,140 and 100 from the Vic to put them on 76, leaving us on 311. Some steady scores and missed doubles from the Vic left us on 116 with our unbeaten 4's record at stake. Up stepped big Darren B who cooly as you like hit T20,S16,D20 to send the Nest wild!! For 16 years old this Laddie has a massive future ahead of him hahaha sorry Darren bring ID next week. ;)

Another Great win and Team Performance, A tough game awaits next week.

Daz hit a 180

116 Finish

Gary played well, Remains unbeaten in Pairs

Next Game - Royal A (A)

Bowling Club V The Tungsten Tigers 27/08/12
Singles W5-3, Pairs L3-1, Fours W1-0

The TT's travelled to the Gilmerton Miners newco, The Bowling club knowing that a tough game lay ahead. We were without the in-form Kenny who is on holiday. Danny was also missing. We welcomed the return of Skipper Daz and Mark and also had our latest signing's on show - Ryan Murray and Darren Beveridge, set to make their TT debut.

For the third time this season we went down 2-0 as Tony had double trouble getting in and was beaten. James was up next to take on the much talked about Bowling club player but lost after an  even scoring battle only to be pipped at the double. Influential skipper Daz got us back in it with a steady performance however we soon slipped to 3-1 as our usually reliable Riiiiicky Bones couldntt find the form of previous weeks.  New signing Darren Beveridge turned the momentum back in our hands on his debut cooly taking out 70 despite his opponent throwing well. The best was yet to come as Vice captain Lijo produced some Telly darts checking in on 144, 45, 81, 140, 91 in what would have been a 14 dart leg despite the initial 3 missed darts. A 17 darter was still quality and it got us back all sqaure at 3-3. Ryan Murray was up next making his return to the boys after 2 years and he didnt dissapoint showing his class and winning mentality to give us a 4-3 lead. It was all up to Fordy to get us the victory and the big man threw 7 cracking darts to give us the win 5-3! Great comeback again.

We tasted defeat for the first time losing 3-1 in the pairs with poor doubles from our guys. Daz/Stevie, Lijo/James and Ryan/Haz all lost but had chances. Darren B and Mark were our winning pair. We had no complaints as credit is due to the Bowling club who threw well. Once again we bounced right back to take the 4's with Daz,Darren,Ryan and Lijo closing the show to give maintain our 100% start in the fours league.

Overall a great team performance again. Bowling club is a hard place to go with lots of experienced players.

Vic B V The Tungsten Tigers 20/08/12
SIngles W7-1, Pairs W4-0, Fours W1-0

The lads travelled to the Victoria bar to take on the Vic B hoping to take maximum points. We were again without our captain, Haz and Ross who is yet to make his league debut.

The game started brightly (for a change) with James winning and hitting a 180 to add his name the 180 chart. Gary returned to the singles and won well too. Kenny was up next and won with another 180, his 2nd in as many weeks. Stand in skipper Lijo started strong with a 100,100,81  and hitting the double to guarantee the draw at least. Tony got back to winning ways eventually hitting double 3 after being way ahead. Stevie was also hoping to get back to winning ways and looked certain to do so after being way in front but couldn't hit his double and his opponent nipped in. This was the last leg the Vic would win as Fordy and Bones completed the singles with wins to give us a 7-1 victory.

The pairs was won 4-0 with Kenny/Tony, James/Gary, Danny/Lijo and Fordy and Bones all wining. James, Danny, Stevie and Lijo ended on a high by taking the fours and maintaining our unbeaten start.

James & Kenny hit 180's

Next Game: Gilmerton Bowling Club (away)

The Tungsten Tigers V The Royal B 13/08/12
Sinlgles W5-3, Pairs D2-2, Fours W1-0

The first home game of the new season would see the Tigers host the Royal B team. The Tigers went into the match knowing that the last game went in favour of the visitors and anything less than 100% could lead to a slip up.

It was De Ja Vu as the boys slipped to a 2-0 deficit with ex captain james simpson getting on the wrong end of an 18 darter from the royals classy left hander. Stevie was up next against his old team but couldnt seem to hit the double despite some steady scoring. It was up to Lijo to start the fightback and he did just that landing double 7 to turn the momentum in favour of the TT's. Danny mananged to make it 2-2 in what was a leg to be forgotten about from both players however we were back level and new signing Kenny started slowly but showed a glimpse of his class landing a 180 and following with 105 to eddge us 3-2 ahead. Darren showed why he and Kenny could be a force in the pairs with a 140 and missing the bull for a170 checkout (shitebag) but returned to clock the double and granny poor wee willie. Tony couldny close the show and was beaten by his opponent despite a 135 which left it up to our inspirational 8th man - Rick Bones who landed the double to send the nest in a frenzy!

"We've got Bones, Bones! Alway believe in Rick Bones!!!"

The Pairs started brightly when Daz and Gaz won to give us the advantage. Lijo and Haz couldnt get going and the game became tied at 1-1. Kenny and fordy gave us the advantage starting slowing but punishing their opponents missed doubles with Kenny bashing double top. The game was there to be won and it looked likely as nephew and uncle - James and Bones stepped up and gave themselves a bit of a lead courtesy of 2x 100's, an 81 and a missed 100 check from james. Doubles were missed and the Royal stepped in to level at 2-2.

Daz fielded a strong 4 for the final match which included himself, Kenny, James and Lijo. We looked way ahead but the Royal started a fightback with scores of 140,125,117 however we sealed the win with Kenny sealing double 2 to give us the victory and another good team performance from everyone.

Next Match: 20/08/12 - VIC B

Jeannie Deans V The Tungsten Tigers, 06/08/12
Singles W5-3, Pairs W4-0, Fours W1-0

The new Tshirts were on show as the TT's travelled away to League newcomers 'Jeannie Deans' for a first game of the season clash. We were without our captain who had girlfriend commitments ;) Sorry Daz had to be said!! We were also missing new signings Ross and Grant who had football.

Vice skipper Lijo stepped up first but couldnt get going as we went 1-0 down. New Signing Kenny was up next but struggled to check in with all darts hitting the wire giving his opponent a 12 dart start. A 123 couldnt save us from slipping to a 2-0 deficit. With 2 of our stronger players going first it seemed like we were in for a long night however James Simpson got us back on track with a steady performance before Danny won to level the game up at 2-2. Jeannie Deans took the lead again as Big Fordy was beaten but that would be the last leg the newcomers would take. The boys showed character and experience to close the singles 5-3 with victories from Tony, Stevie and the match winner Bones.

We won the pairs 4-0 with Haz/Stevie, Tony/Gary, Terry/Kenny and James/Bones all putting in steady performances to get the victories. The boys also took the 4 man team with Kenny hitting 2x 140's and steady scoring at times from Lijo, Danny and James gaves us a big lead however missed doubles let our opponents get a shot to steal the win. Luckily Kenny hit double 5 to seal the win and end on a good overall team performance.

Good Team Effort Lads.

Next Match: Home to The Royal B -13/08/12

The Ball Room 9 – 3 The Tungsten Tigers, 24/07/12
Singles 8-2, Fours 1-1.

The TT’s travelled for a pre season friendly against Top of the Central League team ‘The Ball Room’ without Captain Daz and Bones who were unable to attend.

It was the Tigers first game for several weeks and it showed with a one sided match going in favour of the Hosts. The match was agreed that 10 singles would be played best of 3.

The Tigers started brightly when Vice Skipper Lijo got off to a winning start with 2-0 victory. The match then turned in the opposite direction with James, Danny, Tony, Fordy and Kenny all losing their singles. New Signing Ross restored some hope winning his singles however it was not to be as the Ball Room ran out on top winning 8-2 with Stevie, Haz and Gary all losing. There was some nice darts thrown with the highlight of the night being a 14 darter from Stewart Yule (140,100,100,97,64) who had the cheek to finish on the bull with another dart to spare - Great darts : )
The Fours finished 1-1. Lijo, Fordy, Haz & Gary losing first match. Kenny, Danny, Ross and Stevie won the last four in a close leg. The end result being 9-3 in favour of the Ball Room showing why they are top of the Central League.

It was a good natured match with the Ball Room also putting on a cracking scran for the guys. The boys would like to thank Stewart for helping arrange the friendly and the rest of the Ball Room guys for the game last night. We hope to return the favour in a fortnight’s time at the Nest.

Cheers to all involved.

Tungsten Tigers Vs Vic B ( 16/04/2012 )
Singles: W 8-0, Pairs: D 2-2, Fours: W 1-0.

The Tigers travelled to the Victoria bar to take on the Vic B. We were without captain Daz who was flu struck and Danny who had work commitments leaving us with 9 players.

Big Fordy (Peggy) sat out the singles due to his broken foot. Vice skipper James ‘Vincent van der’ Simpson showed baws to play the man who once retired him from darts. A big win for Simo who finally buried his demons lol. Big Terry, Lijo, Haz, Bones and Gary all done well to get solid wins. Tony returned after 2 weeks away to play well and win too. Dean stepped up to the plate and showed steel to keep calm and win with his opponent hitting some funny scores – Play more often Dean!

The pairs didnt go as planned as we were pegged to a 2-2 draw. James and Fordy played well to win hitting some good scores. Lijo and Gary lost then Bones and Haz lost to go 2-1 down. We pulled it back with a steady performance from Tony and Terry. The boys quickly put the pairs behind them and took the four with Bones narrowly missing a 180 – RIICCCCCCKKYYY!!!!!!

A solid win for the TT’s as we look forward to a grudge match with the Libby Inn next week! Go on the Tigers!

Tungsten Tigers Vs Royal B ( 09/04/2012 )
Well the day did'nt start off as we thought with a few guys missing due to being fucked because of celebrating the Vice captains Birthday down in newcastle!

The boys that did turn up done the best the could with Fordy playing with a broken ankle so big shout out to him also Haz's Uncle Phil giving us a hand again ( joke Haz ).

The singles did'nt go as we thought it would with us going down 3-0, but we did pull it back with a great win from Danny and Dickie.  Unfortunatly the took the next game to garuntee them the draw,  Darren won the next and that brought the scores back to 4-3 going into the last game where we thought Bonner would do the usual and bring the boys out the "Shit!" but that never worked losing the singles 5-3.

The pairs were just as bad losing them 3-1 with a win from Darren and Dickie agaist Gary's auld man ( Munson ) lol.  We did manage to win the 4's with Darren, Danny, Dickie and Dean ( The Power ) Robertson lol.

So let's hope we can improve for next week and get back the " Tungsten Tigers " way and that is WINNING!!!!!!!!
