The Talbot Community Centre, previously a Miners' Hall and generally known as the Talbot Institute, is a Grade II listed building now open as a local amenity.  It is a true Community Centre that is solely owned by the community (not by any organisation or individual), run by people from the local community (mainly volunteers), for use in the community.

The Talbot does not receive any funding from the Borough Council, Civic Trust or any other organisation.  (The only funding that can be obtained is for projects such as alterations to the facility).

It is a charity registered, non-profit making facility that ploughs any money made back into paying for such items as music licence, maintenance, general upkeep and insurance of the fire alarm, burglar alarm and the elctric lift, as well as the building and public liability insurance, together with the utilitiy bills.

This is the reason that we have to ask individuals and businesses for help in order to keep this magnificent building open for the use of everyone in the community.  We are very grateful that, with your help, we are able to achieve this.
