Talbot Community Centre has been a part of Kenfig Hill since 1911 and a registered charity.
It is entirely independent (not owned by any council or outside party) and relies on donations and hiring of the building to continue being part of this community.
During Covid-19, we have been offering hot meal delivery to those who are shielding or vulnerable and have been using the time to update the inside of the building. We are looking to continue this work moving forward and would really appreciate any nominations to help us gain this funding.
Please share as much as possible - it would mean a great deal to us
The Talbot Community Centre is a former Miner's Institute and a true community centre, as it is owned and run by the local community, for the community and most of the people involved are volunteers.
The former Talbot Miners' Welfare Institute, was a gift to the village from the Talbot family in 1911, it remained as a Miners Institute until the last colliery in Kenfig Hill closed in 1959, it then fell into disrepair and was closed for several years before a group of community volunteers decided something needed to be done with the landmark building.
After receiving grants from groups like the Big Lottery and other support the Grade II listed building was reopened in 2005.
Since then, we have prided ourselves on the variety of groups using the centre, from traditional Shotokan karate to sewing and from bingo to Slimming World. Details regarding the activities offered is available on our Weekly Diary page here. However, due to the coronavirus, we are unable to offer many services in the community centre for the time being. Instead we are offering a meal delivery service, available on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, offering a main meal for £4.50 with optional dessert for £1.50.
We are hopeful that we should be able to return to normal during 2021 as soon as it is safe to do welcome everyone back into Talbot Community Centre.
