Potter’s 2018.
This year saw 48 people travel to Potter’s Leisure Centre, Hopton on Sea. The journey down was enjoyable and safe thanks to our resident Cumbria Coach Driver, Lee.
This was the first time we had travelled on a Sunday, the reward being a 5 course meal, complimented with wine and a great night of entertainment!
Everyone enjoyed the Bowling Week and it was nice to renew old friendships made in previous years’ competitions.
Frank and Helen went out in the first round of the pairs competition, unable to find their previous form when they won through to the Semi-Finals last year. (I don’t think it was because of all that food and wine from the previous night – Hic)!
It was great to see a lot of new and old Club Members take part this year - Ian, Christine and Carol from Springfield all said they enjoyed the experience and although they never won any trophies, they learned what it is like to compete against some of the world’s class players. Everyone enjoyed the week, especially two players from the same club, sharing £700+ winnings from the Thursday evening Bingo session; I have omitted disclosing their names to avoid begging letters, or beggars calling at their homes!!
I feel that a special tribute should be made to the “Springfield” Triples Team of Sam Patterson, Sheila Warrick and Alastair Ritchie. The team reached the last 16 Triples competition and Alastair was exceptional as Skip. Just to round off our week, Mark was presented with a bottle of wine and a medal for beating one of the Belgian teams in the early rounds. No doubt the Belgians will be after revenge to get the medal back next year!!
We have been invited to Belgium next year to a Bowling Competition at Antwerp. The planning is very much in its infancy, but Graham Thomson will be able to furnish anyone interested with proposed costing for accommodation only. You will have to arrange your own Travel and Food. Several people have shown an interest for this trip which starts on the 14th May 2019.
We always welcome new members old and young to our Club, so spread the word!
