Scottish Short Mat Bowling Federation rules apply. The following additional rules will apply for the Border League.
THE LEAGUE
The League season will run from dates agreed prior to the start of competition.
The games will be played once a month on a Saturday depending on the Number of clubs Interested, Dates & Times will be available Righ after the Draw and issued in April The venue will be at Gretna Social Club Proposed Dates are 30th September; 28th October; 25th November; 20th January; 3rd February; 24th February; 23rd March
TEAMS
A club will enter 3 teams, each team consisting of 3 players, nine players in total.
Each team to nominate a Skip
A team may borrow one player from another club, but must inform the organiser as soon as possible.
A borrowed player can only play LEAD.
Penalty for a team turning up short of 8 players (3 points + The Bonus).
ROLE OF THE SKIP
The Skip is responsible for the collection of the £2 per Player £18in all and give it to the Organiser.
The Skip is responsible for the conduct of their team members and to report any issues to the umpire/organiser.
The Skip will ensure team players are wearing the appropriate dress i.e. whites /club tops with grey/black trousers, smooth soled shoes. Any person wearing incorrect shoes will not be allowed to play. Or play in bare feet.
The Skip will be responsible for collecting the entry fees and handing the money to the organiser or his substitute.
Irrespective of how many players turn up for a team, that team will still have to pay the full entry fee’s.
THE GAME/MATCH
The match will be played on 3 mats.
A match will be 2 clubs each of 3 teams and each team playing three games of 5 ends, (3 bowls per player).
During a match only the Skips will be allowed to inspect the head.
The Skips will be allowed to inspect the head just before they play their last bowl.
A team toss of a coin will take place to determine who starts the games.
No player can play in more than one match on the day.
No pre match practice allowed.
A player intending to play a forced/fired shot must give a verbal warning to other players of their intension also a player from the same mat to show a raised arm.
If a bowl is delivered with such force as to pass over the back or the side of the fender or knock another bowl over the back or the side of the defender the opposing team shall be awarded 3 shots and counting the end as played.
If the jack is driven over the back or the side of the fender by a player the opposing team shall be awarded 3 shots and counting the end as an end played.
SCORE CARDS
The names of all team players must be printed clearly on the score cards.
Score cards must be filled in with the correct score and signed by the team skips.
SCORING OF A GAME
All shots count
One point for a win.
Half point for a draw.
1 Bonus point for overall win (an overall win being the team with the greatest number of shots over the 3 games played). A total of 10 points are available.
Burnt Ends count as an end played and 1 shot to your opponent, however if the last end is burnt then no penalty point will be given to the opposing team and the end played again. The end can be played a maximum of 2 times. If however the end is burnt on the second time of playing the point will be awarded to the opposing team regardless who burnt the end at the
The end of the season the Team with the most Points will win The League Trophy +a Cash Prize
FOOT FAULTING
It is the duty of the skip to call a foot fault by bringing it to the attention of the opposing skip and REMOVE THE BOWL. No part of the body may be in contact with the rink mat outside the delivery lines or in contact with the ditch; this shall constitute a foot fault. In the case of a disabled player who needs either a walking stick or a hand outside the line for balance, this does not apply.
If a player thinks a foot fault has occurred they should then bring it to the attention of their skip.
MOBILE PHONES
Players are to turn off mobile phones / tablets / electronic devices whilst their game is in progress.
