Great Result In Stonehaven  Short mat Pairs

Last weekend saw a small group  of 6 short mat bowlers and 3 Supporters from Springfield.Gretna Short Mat Bowling Club travel to one of the biggest competitions in Scotland for the Stonehaven Aberdeenshire Open Triples & Pairs. We put two teams in the triples on the Saturday Helen Leigh, Sheila Warrick & Alastair Ritchie in one the other was Peter Woodley James Bethune & Mark Thomson both teams struggled with the mats  peters team didn’t get out of the group stages but Helen Sheila & Alastair got to the last 32   there were  Two pairs Bowlers from Springfield up against 78  of the best pairs in Scotland, Peter Woodley and James Bethune  never managed to get out of the group stage only winning 1 game but Sheila Warrick and Alastair Ritchie  never lost a game in the group  to qualify for the last 32 knock outs stages this was the first time Alastair has been Skipping in such a large tournament but with Sheila  being  there  before on many occasions  and was passing on her knowledge  to her younger partner they  got down to the semi final where they just lost too an international pair  but what a result for a small club Well Done!
