My name is Kay Warner and I am a figurative artist working in fabric, fibre and threads.

I have a passion for textiles

I love fabric – the look, the feel and the smell of it. Especially natural fibres like cotton, linen and silk.  Best of all is the way I can change the appearance of a piece of textile with the addition of a few lengths of thread and some simple embroidery stitches.  Not to mention; colouring, and slashing, and burning, and shrinking, and felting, the list goes on and on.  I hoard fabric, it’s hidden all over the house.  Nothing is ever thrown away because I know that some time it will be exactly what I need. Mistakes are thrown in a drawer because I know that sooner or later I will come up with a way to fix it, use it or abuse it.  It’s exactly the same with threads of all kinds; along with string, raffia, wire, ribbons, knitting yarns.  And then there’s the wool tops, sliver, throwster’s waste and silkworm cocoon strippings (these smell wonderful, like warm straw with small furry animal overtones).  All to fuel my passion.  I used to think it was just me, until I discovered the internet and found lots of similar like-minded people all over the world.

and for people

Since I was a tiny tot I have loved drawing and what I liked to draw best was people Add to that a fascination for fabric, fibres and threads that led to City & Guilds Creative Embroidery qualifications and you get not just an embroiderer but also a doll maker.  Add years of practice and experiment, honing the portraiture skills and learning to sculpt with fibres, threads and wires and you get, I hope, a figurative artist!

My Etsy Shop

There are usually items for sale in my SMockerySmArt Etsy Shop. For each sale item there is always a full set of photographs available in the Etsy Shop and it is also possible to look at the details for items that have been sold.

I am always happy to consider custom orders, although it is not possible to make an exact copy of a previously sold item as I make them one at a time with whatever materials I have to hand and they are all slightly different.

Items from my Etsy Shop have been sold to quite a few customers in the United States, indeed some have bought several items, so you could say they are collectors. I have also completed a commission for a museum in Oregon.
