More Polices Borrowed
12 August 2008

2-3 years ago, we were being mocked for "extreme" views regarding several of our policies. Over the last 18 months, our ideas have been draughted into numerous Labour and Tory efforts to get themselves out of the proverbial (of their own making), often in a complete U-turn from their initial poor decisions.

Yesterday, Mr Cameron stated that they wished to turn down bail options for repeat and vicious offenders - that is about the kindest thing that we would like to offer them.

Today, a Sun columnist is suggesting that the lower earners and pensioners be taken out of taxation. This has been our policy for 2+ years. We consider that anyone taking home less than £15K p/a should be exempt income tax and then join a sliding scale when they rise above that rate. We consider that such a move, along with a severe tightening of unemployment hand outs and a good percentage of those too sick to work, would benefit most from being able to get back into employment. The country would benefit from having fewer to support.

We also consider that if many of those too sick to work full time, might be very interested (and able) in working perhaps 1-3 days per week. We understand that the effort of 5 day weeks is too much for some with low to mid-level problems, however the present system is one of all or nothing. If an average of 1 day's work per week can be achieved for those presently on the sick, then the hand outs would drop 20% and the employers then pay them for that day's work. Jobs can easily be shared. This is simply common sense - as are all of the Popular Alliance policies.
