Devolution

by Craig Chapman - Party Leader - 16:55 on 16 January 2012

Popular Alliance prefers to keep the Union together although fully understands the many English who wish to see Scotland ex-communicated as under present agreements, they have an unfair number of free services compared to their number of tax paying contributors and of course such inconsistencies cause resentment.

Scotland also has a higher number per capita, employed by the state (we'll endeavour to unearth the figures), so they have less actual national income to fall back upon, whilst their pot is forever syphoned (and presently refilled from south of the border).

For certain, Alex Salmond is a chancer with a bit of an ego problem and his original plan was to jump ship, sign up to the Euro, accept a whole bucket load of EU subsidies and pocket a nice wage/pension in the process, whilst no doubt enjoying plenty of jollies off the back of the North Sea oil.

Of course, the Euro has since all-but collapsed (and will soon) and the EU is as broke as its PIGS hangers-on, hence their efforts to tax each member on its boom industries, our being the City of London, Sweden on furniture, etc.

On this subject, perhaps Sarkozy might try looking after his own downgraded country before pontificating like the jumped-up, self-important, little twerp he has been of late, regarding other European nations. PA certainly back Eric Cantona to stand against him and represent French popular wishes, whilst respecting their neighbours.

To completely upset the apple cart, we now have the ironic juxtaposition of Salmond not able to rely on his beloved "leave" vote from a Scottish-only referendum and Cameron stating that he believes a UK-wide referendum is the only legally acceptable option. The irony being that England and Wales would most likely vote to drop Scotland from the Union. Salmond cried wolf and got a face full of lions and dragons that he didn't expect !!

Of course, without the Scottish Labour MPs, the Tories would become a stronger force in Westminster.

As for his alternative Devo-Max cop-out, Scotland already has an unfair bucket load of benefits and might consider putting more money in before they try to fleece us anymore.

It certainly looks like Salmond didn't do his homework and tripped over his sizeable ego.

PA says - if we allow Scotland to leave the Union, England and Wales won't have any weather !!

Seriously though, our home nations are stronger together however we must not allow the English to be neglected as they have been. We therefore require one day each week for MPs representing English constituencies to sit and manage English-only affairs, in the same manner that Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland do, although we should not engage in ridiculously expensive separate buildings, representatives and staff levels, these already exist.
