Referendum on Bill of Rights 1689 ??

by Craig Chapman - party leader - 13:52 on 23 August 2011

It was blood boiling to read former LibDem leader Mingus Cambell's comments that it would be UNCONSTITUTIONAL for David Cameron to drop the European Court of Human Right's control of our courts and bleeding heart consciences, to develop our own UK Human Rights Act.

i) There is no existing European Union constitution to break, so how can this be un-constitutional ?

There is only a Treaty of updates that French President Sarkosy admits will never be written into the failed EU Constitution, which was turned down by several nations in the type of democratic referendum that our troops fight for elsewhere, but which we are denied.

ii) We already have our own Bill of Rights 1689, of which Tony Blair updated a section as recently as 2005. As Popular Alliance have written elsewhere, this valid UK Constitution states very clearly that no overseas body can dictate our laws and anyone who allows this to happen, unless beaten in a war, is committing constitutional treason.

iii) If Mr Cameron wishes to run a democratic country then he should indeed organise a referendum regarding the upholding the Bill of Rights 1689. He is obviously scared of upsetting the Brussels elite by staging an anti-EU referendum, so here is his get-out card.

Simples !!

Our Government says its hands are tied - unfortunately, they tie the knots themselves
