AV = Anonymous & Vague

by Craig Chapman - 09:35 on 01 May 2011

The Alternative Voting argument continues to rattle on in a war of aimless jargon and little in the way of explaination.

The Tories have even sent me an addressed letter including all their bumph and had I not looked into the option myself, I'd be none the wiser.

Then a second card came through the door which puts 5 simple statements forward and explains them quite well, but they are still missing the point.

The simple fact is that with AV, the voters would have to select a preference for each and every name on the voting slip, whether or not the voter has any idea of who they are what they stand for.

It really is a game of pin the tale on the donkey and when electing a government to run our country for the next 5 years, the situation requires something a lot more specific and responsible.

Having suffered a right bunch of asses (more donkey references) in Westminster for the worst 10 years of financial mis-management on record (Blair & Brown), the voters of the this country need to look at themselves, end their tribal voting patterns and consider what is best for the UK.

The voting system is fine, the voters need to address their own knowledge and methods.

Quite honestly, I do not believe that the best option for the Lib Dems is AV anymore, following their embarrassing session as the minors in a coalition government. All their leading figures - Clegg, Huhne, Cable etc, have been exposed as first class prats and anything they campaign for is being quite rightly ridiculed. Perhaps, now that their idiocy has been exposed - with their love of political correctness, lawlessness and the EU, perhaps the country can set about reducing the influence all 3 poisonous issues have upon our lives, and get back to dealing with realism !!

I actually think that an AV election in the UK would see UKIP come through as the victor, as their candidates would get the sympathy vote ahead of the big three. I agree with everything on UKIP's manifesto, but do not trust their leaders do enact one single thing they say they stand for - as their record so far of not voting on their key policies in Brussels and their extremely dodgy party finances show them to be a bunch of hypocrites.

So, I repeat, the voting system of this country is fine, its the voters who need to change.
