Bail Restrictions For Repeat Offenders

by Craig Chapman - 14:27 on 11 August 2008

Popular Alliance were very impressed to read the new Tory policy regarding denied bail for suspected murderers and violent thugs with a history of repeat offending. They also call for judges to be given power to jail those who breach bail conditions.

It is, to be honest, amazing that such a motive requires any discussion in the first place, as this is a common sense policy and very much in line with what we have been calling for ourselves since the Popular Alliance began 2-3 years ago. How has our country arrived in such a position that this can be considered a brave new direction for the main opposition party ? So well done Mr Cameron, where have you been for the last 12 months ?

What we do question however, is how they plan to make this work.

The present European Union Human Rights Act can be twisted in favour of the offender every time. We will continue to see some slimy lawyer with a mouth full of jargon, a crammed bank balance and no regards whatsoever for the victims of crime, who will tear such a flimsy policy apart and throw it back in the face of the decent majority.

Both Labour and Conservative have in the past, prematurely spouted poorly researched, good intentions in many areas, only to be forced into an embarrassing a U-turn when someone advises them of the existing laws, each time weakening the standing and general respect for our political leaders. These populist ideals can only be achieved by tackling the problem at the root - and a common denominator is the interference of the European Union in our nation's affairs.

If the Conservative Party wish to push ahead with good policies like these, they will need to also repeal the EU’s Human Rights Act. To do that they will need to lead our nation out of the European Union. Is Mr Cameron prepared to do that ? So far, he has only paid lip service to such ideals. We are surprised that none of the newspapers have so far approached the story in this way.

Popular Alliance do believe wholly in trial by jury, however there are many who take advantage of our country’s fair legal system and we will always campaign for the rights of the victims of crime to be considered before those of the accused perpetrators. Such aims will require wholesale changes for our country and how it is governed.

So, we ask, what do the citizens of the UK want ?

Do they want the freedom to make the laws that we need to live the lives that we want, or do they wish to continue the present one-way course to anarchy ?

We are brave enough to speak out in this way, are you brave enough to support us ?

13th August Update - its strange, we post a very relevant and well put together blog like this with excellent policy points and viewings are down this week (maybe due to holidays), yet last week's blog making fun of Gordon Brown smiling on the loo, saw viewing figures go through the roof !! It would be very interesting to learn why some people log on to our website - for the groundbreaking, common-sense policies or for the graphically constructed insults ??? Please feel free to email us some clues at c.chapman@popularalliance.org. We just aim to please !!
