Careful Where You Point Those Fingers, Labour !

by Craig Chapman - 13:48 on 14 July 2008

Our government were out throwing their weight around again late last week, blaming us dreadful, unwashed tax payers for all the headlines they are cringing their way through.

Jacqui Smith is convinced it the community’s fault we have so much trouble on our streets and in schools. OK, I’m struggling to recall the exact day that we all decided to take away all manner of laws and disciplines and adopt some drivel entitled "The Human Rights Act" – oh silly me, it was Septic Tone’s Labour that brought that one in and the previous Tory government that stopped school teachers from disciplining unruly pupils.

Hilary Benn (I bet he was bullied at school with a name like that and has had a chip on his shoulder ever since – it wasn’t my fault Hillypoos, blame your parents) says that the present fuel costs are a good thing to force us into scaling down our road miles and choice of car. There is a certain strident, zero-tolerance-ness in his words and indeed if we do need to cut down our motoring, he is getting the result he wants, but Popular Alliance would like to remind him of a couple of points.

Hillypoos put his foot in the proverbial when he said that cars dating back to 2001 should be replaced for newer, less polluting models. We do recall that his government had been in power for 4 years by that date and therefore we ask him why they allowed such awful polluting monsters onto the road in the first place. We’re also pretty sure that they taxed each sale meticulously. Finger on the pulse, planning for the future ? I think not. Perhaps then, the burden should be shared a little more fairly ?

Liam Byrne - Minister of State (in addition to his current role as Minister of State at the Home Office and Minister for the West Midlands and Minister of Paper Shuffling & Grinning Loads) is a very busy man and his multiple roles do suggest a few answers to questions Popular Alliance have been asking in recent months :-

Why does this country need 10-15 ECO Towns at a time when our national birth rate is at its lowest since the 2nd World War ? Perhaps the fact that one of the government’s main movers in answering housing shortages is also heavily involved in immigration matters. This conveniently suggests that someone is filing problems sat in his in-tray directly to his out-tray, solving one job with his other – perhaps we’re needing new houses, to house his endless flow of immigrants !!!

Gordon McBlobby McBrown meanwhile, is allergic to helpful comments and actions, even when he thinks he means well.

His determination to build 8 new nuclear power stations, defying all planning objections raised is again, typical of this arrogant man. Yes, we need to step away from our dependency on oil and we also need to become a lot more independent regarding our gas and electricity supplies, however he is going to upset a lot of people very quickly when they learn of his planned locations for these 8 new plants.

Popular Alliance has long campaigned for hydrogen power to be our main source of energy, with as many natural supplementaries as possible. The great thing about hydrogen power is that our existing power stations can be converted and updated to run from this clean fuel source – we would not have to dig up more lovely green fields and blight more coastline to build those ominous looking, domed reactors.

We would also look at how many village mill water wheels are still happily churning around – we know the figure would be very high, and yet these wheels are not connected to anything productive !! We have had HEP potential sitting on almost doorstep and have being ignoring it, whilst we buy energy from Europe !! We propose fixing generators to these systems, they could power 25% of a village at certain times of the day, taking an enormous strain off the national network.

We are an island surrounded by waves and currents, that do not slack off in the same way the sun and wind do, so why have successive governments not invested in wave turbines ? We also propose removing VAT from all residential energy-producing equipment. The present cost of fitting solar panels would not see most households make savings for many years.

Not only has this government been lacking foresight for 11 years, it continues to blame for us for the problems it faces and causes. Just what have they done with our hard earned taxes ? The amount of EU investment in state-of-the-art power generating plants in places like Bulgaria (and the like) suggest serious embezzlement and mis-management of national monies by our MPs and MEPs.
