Channel 4, Police, Courts and they still got it wrong !!

by Craig Chapman - 20:31 on 16 May 2008

Channel 4 has won a court case against West Midlands Police and the CPS who tried to suggest that they had used misleading editing to demonstrate extremism being preached in British Mosques. Both must issue a public apology and pay a six figure fine, which is to be donated to charity.

The Dispatches programme infiltrated Green Lane Mosque in Small Heath, Birmingham and recorded the speakers presenting homophobic, anti-Semetic and sexist statements and condemning non Muslims. Ofcom disagreed that Channel 4 portrayed a distorted view of the events.
Kevin Sutcliffe, the Channel 4 deputy head of current affairs said that authorities should be discovering these situations themselves, not running around prosecuting those who reveal the truth.
Popular Alliance agrees with Mr Sutcliffe comments, however we do see this as double standards by Channel 4 who couldn’t stop themselves having a Muslim woman address the nation at Christmas, at the same time as our Queen gave her traditional speech for the nation. We also question why even more of our taxes are used to pay their fines, surely a fine should be a form of punishment, not another excuse to hand over our taxes to get someone out of the proverbial.
Perhaps those who got their knickers in a twist should be serving some form charitable service time, whilst the clerics should be waved off at Dover Quayside with a big hole in the bottom of their boat.
