Letter to Burton Mail regarding new Labour Candicate

by Brian Buxton - 14:07 on 01 April 2008
Dear Sir,

I was interested to read the comments about the BNP made by Mrs Smeeth, the Parliamentary Candidate for Labour.

She rightly states that the two main party’s share of the vote fell, and cites the failure of the main parties to address voters' concerns regarding immigration, crime and anti-social behaviour. Whilst I agree that voters (older people in particular) are concerned about crime and anti-social behaviour, having worked closely with Staffordshire Police on
this issue, and seeing how tightly their resources are stretched, I conclude that they are doing a good job, in spite of constant under funding by the Labour government. This is a government problem, not a police problem.

In relation to immigration, Mrs Smeeth states that immigration is 'positive'. I do not quite understand what she means by this, and wonder if she is actually in denial about the real fears of the electorate. Over the past ten years, opinion polls have consistently shown that around 80% of all British people, (including well over 50% of ethnic minorities) want to see immigration significantly reduced. The government has arrogantly ignored this, and in spite of widespread opposition from voters, is pressing ahead with the building of over half a million homes. In view of the fact that we have a declining indigenous population, this must be to house the continued mass immigrant population that the Labour government
plans to accept over the next 25 years. And of course, this increasing level of immigration is causing endless difficulties in school classrooms, and within the National Health Service.

In my opinion, she is conveniently ignoring the other reasons why the votes of the main parties are declining - their inability to tackle the main issues concerning the electorate, namely membership of the EU and the current punitive levels of taxation.

Her silence on our membership of the EU is deafening but not surprising. It costs us £40 million EACH DAY to finance an organisation riddled with corruption and waste, whose accounts have not been signed off for thirteen years (but no one in Westminster seems to care about this!).

This equates to £1,200 in income tax for the average family in Britain - in addition to the already record levels of direct and indirect taxation, much of which goes to support the children of EU immigrants at the expense of elderly people in this country who are in need of care or nursing. And to top it all, Mr Brown breaks a manifesto promise of a referendum on the EU Constitution. Will any one ever believe your party again?

Yes Mrs Smeeth you do need to listen to people, because at the moment the biggest recruiting agency for the BNP is the Labour Government with the Tory Party not far behind.
