THINK BIKE ??? How about THINK FELLOW ROAD USER ???

So many of our highway verges have a picture of motor cyclist aboard his/her trusty steed with the epitaph "THINK BIKE" printed below.

Usually within 2-3 minutes of passing one of these signs, BIKE will whizz past me on the inside of a roundabout without a care in the world for my mental state or paintwork.

I can be driving along a standard A road with heavy traffic coming from both directions when along comes Evil Knevil swerving between the cars, who are already doing 50mph. Oncoming cars are swerving to avoid this rider, whilst drivers heading in the same direction as BIKE think they have just been buzzed by a swarm of Eurofighter Bombers.

Then we consider London's busy roads where we have to spend more time looking in our wing mirrors than through our front windscreens to avoid a whole flotilla of weaving motor BIKES, trying their upmost to reach hospital before work.

Of course, I realise that the bikers behaving like this, do not represent every biker on the road, but the percentage of risk takers is very high and does not do their THINK BIKE campaign any favours whatsoever.

I will continue to try and be a considerate and careful motorist but I will only begin to THINK BIKE, when BIKE makes an effort to THINK FELLOW ROAD USER
