The 'Sula Mhor'  (Gaelic for big gannet) 

Operating from Plockton for the first time in 2009 the MV 'Sula Mhor' is a 51 foot wooden vessel. She is of carvel construction, pitch pine planks on oak frames . She was built in southern England in 1947, possibly as a naval tender. She later saw service working for the St. Mawes FerryCo in Cornwall, and prior to coming to Plockton sailed the seas around the Isle of Mull on wildlife cruises. The 'Sula Mhor':

  • is fully licensed by the MCA with a Class V1 Certificate for 61 passengers
  • carries a life raft for 65 persons and full safety equipment
  • has DTI buoyancy aids and fire protection
  • is powered by twin Ford V8 engines with 120 horse power
  • has a toilet and total rain cover
  • has an upper deck for up to 17 people giving great views of the scenery and wildlife
  • has a  very nice fully qualified local skipper
  • has a licensed bar serving hot and cold drinks, and snacks
  • licensed by the Scottish Government for weddings on board
  • cruises every day from Easter to October, weather permitting!
  • is available for charter for private parties and events, please enquire

We regret that the 'Sula Mhor' is not suitable for visitors in wheelchairs but every effort will be made, where possible, to accommodate those with special needs.

Scottish Government Law prohibits smoking anywhere on board the 'Sula Mhor'.
