Restoration

A number of P&T Dragons have been restored or are currently under restoration. This page is for details of the restoration and for links to web sites carrying information on yachts that have been restored or may be for sale.

Hummingbird

GBR 432 Hummingbird is fully restored and currently for sale. She is in storage at Burnham on Crouch. She has her own dedicated web site here. Hummingbird was originally bought by Pat Dyas in 1967 and raced from the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Burnham by him. Since then we have a record of only two further owners, one in Torbay, the other in Dartmouth. She was restored by Joe Irving in Humberside around 2004/5 before being bought back down to Burnham and given the Petticrow rigging treatment. She is rather expensive on the face of it; her price would buy a brand new plastic Petticrows Dragon and trailer, ready to race. However, many man hours have gone into her very full restoration and we know labour is not cheap! Interestingly, Griff Rees-Jones is reported to have said that his Philip Rhodes yacht Undina cost him £70,000 to buy and that he spent close to £500,000 on her; she is now for sale at ... £70,000.

Josephine

GBR 333 Josephine was originally built in 1957 as DEN 140 for Henning Jensen. She came to the UK in 1960 and spent time on the Solent, at Torbay and in Northern Ireland. She was in Estonia having a new teak deck laid and has now returned to Burnham on Crouch, where Petticrows have her for sale on behalf of her owner, either part restored or to be completed. More details and photos are here.

Blyth Classic Yachts

Blyth restored several Dragons in the late 1990s/early 2000s. They wrote an article for the British Dragon Association using Blue Haze to illustrate their general restoration tips. There is a copy here.

Salute

GER 436 Salute is a 1967 boat that was first bought by W Kniep of Holland. In 1970 she was sold to Germany and in autumn 2013 was restored by the well known Dutch Dragon builder, Joop Doomernik. The photos below show her keel being refitted and her gleaming bilges! See the News page for her launch.

Pantarhei

GER 383 Pantarhei was built in 1966 and was in Germany by 1970. She underwent a restoration in 2010 and now looks very fine. The winches set up on a stainless base were fitted by P&T from around 1962; previously they were on a finely crafted mahogany plinth.

Galax

GBR 615 Galax was built for a Swedish client in 1969. She then spent time in both Sweden and Norway before being bought to the UK in 1996. She was regularly raced and well maintained. She has the original helms draws and crew seats and remains remarkably original. Her rigging is, however, all modernised and strengthened around the mast step and shrouds. She was for sale but has now been sold; see the News page for more details.

Buriana

ITA 22 Buriana was built for Ernesto Illy of Trieste in 1963. She was bought from a fisherman near Venice in 1985 by Piero Guidi, the founder of the Italina Dragon Association. He had her restored and then sailed her regularly. His daughter Susanna has carried on sailing her and she has recently undergone further restoration, including replacement of keel bolts.
