1971 Norton Commando 750 Mk2

Owned by Brian

A super example of a Commando

This very fine machine was brought to the shed to be commissioned and made ready for the road. One of the very finest products of the British motorcycle industry in the 1970's and possibly one of the finest ever Nortons.

The usual scenario unfolded. Petrol in the tank and a battery connected to the ignition system to see what happens. A check of the oil tank revealed very little lubricant as it had wet-sumped into the crankcases - a drain of that back to the tank for a start. We noticed that there was an electronic ignition system fitted so it took us slightly longer than normal until we checked the polarity of the bike before connecting a battery for fear of blowing diodes or short-circuiting sensitive components. Positive earth! Several swings of the kickstarter later and the Norton burst into life. It ticked over quite nicely so no need to lay many spanners on the engine.
