Parents: John & Annie Knox. After the death of John Knox, Annie married Harold Nelson.

At the age of 6, Joan immigrated to Canada with her mother and step-father. Later her step-brothers would follow.

Marriage : Joan married Jack Nelson September 6, 1941.
