Researching

I have been told people dont engage in research because it is too difficult and time consuming. My argument is that if you are a professional practitioner you cant afford to waste time and energy by not engaging in Living Educational Theory Research.

Data collection

Barry Hymer noted in the introduction of his thesis that he suddenly realised he was surrounded by data - I will find the quote when I have time.

Thanks to Brian Williamson (120224 personal communication after an EJOLTs Editorial Board meeting):

The research as part of practice I mentioned was to do with capturing utterances in class quickly either on paper or on a smart phone…and then writing them up later.

I did a lot of this in one to one maths using a designated book which the students were encouraged to accept as part of their learning environment.
