History 2

1970
Lochs had an excellent League season finishing in second place behind a strong Point side.  Drama engulfed the Lewis Cup this season and the competition was abandoned after allegations that Harris played ineligible players.  Lochs lost in the final of the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup 1-0 to Point.

1971
Again Lochs were pipped for the League title by Point, but this time by only 2 points.  They again reached the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup Final losing this time to Back 4-3 in a replay.  This year the Lewis & Harris Select played against Elgin City and Lochs players Kenny Macsween, Angus Macdonald, Rob Macdonald and Calum Dan Martin played.

1972
• Kenny Macsween died on 5thMarch at the age of 21.
• Finished 6th in the League.
• Won Lewis Cup 5-4(AET) v Athletic in replay after 1-1 draw.
• “Chuck” Macleod scored 4 goals in the final.
• Lost in S/F of Eilean an Fhraoich to Point

1973
• Finished 4th in the League.
• Lost in S/F of Lewis Cup to Point.
• Lost in R1 of Eilean an Fhraoich Cup to Harris
• Summer Cup played in sections.  Lochs played Back, Rovers and Point.  Did not progress.
• Calum Dan Martin and “Davie” Ferguson played for Lewis Select v Forres Mechanics.

1974
• Won Eilean an Fhraoich Cup 2-1 v Point.  Kenny Macmillan and Ricky Maunghan scored.
• Finished 3rd in League.
• Lewis Cup- lost 5-1 to Aths in R1.
• Summer Cup- Lost in S/F to Back.
• “Chuck” played for L&H Select v North of Scotland 2nd Eleven.

1975
• 5th in League.
• Lost 1-0 to Harris in Lewis Cup S/F and 8-1 to Harris in Summer Cup R1
•  Eilean an Fhraoich Cup- lost in S/F to Point.
• L&H Select played Hamilton Accies.  Ricky Monaghan and “Chuck” played as subs.

 

1976
• 8th in the Lewis & Harris League.
• Lost in R1 of Lewis Cup to West Side.
• Lost to Back in R1 of Summer and Eilean an Fhraoich Cups
• Angie Beag was a sub for the L&H Under 21 Select v Celtic BC.

1977
• 8th in the Lewis & Harris League.
• Lost in R1 of the Eilean an Fhraoich to Back.
• Jock Stein started this year.  Lochs lost to Ness in Rd.
• Lewis Cup, lost to Tolsta in R1 after replay.
• Main faces in squad included Angus Beattie, Angie Beag, Dan, calum Murdo, Robbie, Geal, Murchadh Atch, Aosy, Donnie Massa, Calum Dan, Golly and the aging Chuck.

1978
• 7th in the Lewis & Harris League.
• Lost in R1 of the Lewis, Jock Stein and Eilean an Fhraoich Cups.
• Reached S/F of Autumn Cup only to lose 5-1 to Point.
• Lochs squad much the same as previous year.

1979
• Lochs won the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup with a 4-1 victory over Back.  “Sally” Maclennan starred for the Maroons.
• 8th in the League.
• Lost to Carloway in R2 of Lewis Cup.
• Acres Boys Club Cup started.  It was played in sections but Lochs did not qualify from their section.
• Lost in R2 of Jock Stein to Tolsta

1980
• 6th in the League
• Acres Cup-did not qualify from Section 2.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost 1-0 to Rovers in S/F.
• Lewis Cup-lost 4-2 to Aths in R1.
• Eilean an Fhraoich – lost 12-1 on aggregate to Ness in S/F.
• Angus Beattie, Aonghus Atch, Sally, Angie Beag and Dan Macmillan all played for the L&H Select.

1981
• 8th in the League.
• Acres Cup-did not qualify from their section.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost 3-0 to Back in R1.
• Lewis Cup-lost 2-1 to Point in R2.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost 10-1 on aggregate to Tolsta in R2.
• Sally and Ruaraidh Macrae played for L&H Select in 7-0 win over Skye.

1982
• 6th in the League.
• Acres Cup- did not qualify from their section.
• Jock Stein Cup- Having beaten Harris and Carloway Lochs lost after replay in S/F to Tolsta.
• Lewis Cup- lost to Harris 5-0.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost in R1 to Back.
• Sally played for L&H Select v Morton and scored in 2-1 defeat.
• Robbie Mackenzie and Angie Beag Macmillan played for Select against Skye and South West Ross.  Robbie scored 3 goals in the two wins 7-1 and 4-1 respectively.  Ruaraidh Macrae and Ian Maciver were subs in both matches.

1983
• 8th in League.
• Acres Cup lost 2-1 to Tolsta in S/F.
• Jock Stein Cup lost in R1 to Harris.
• Reached S/F of Lewis Cup and lost to Ness 1-0.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup lost in R1 to Harris.
• Ruaraidh Macrae played for L&H Select against Hibs, Morton and Northern Constabulary.  Sally Maclennan was a sub in all these games and scored against Northern Constabulary in a 7-1 win.

1984
• This year Lochs celebrated their 50th Anniversary.  Lochs played a Rangers Reserve side that included Ian Durrant, Derek Ferguson, Billy Davies and Robert Fleck.  The young Rangers side won 3-0.
• 9th in the League.
• Acres Cup-did not qualify from Section.
• Lewis Cup- lost in Final 2-0 to Point.  This was the club’s first final since 1979.
• Lewis Cup-lost to Ness in R2.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost to Point in R2.
• Ruaraidh Macrae played for the L&H Select against Uist & Barra, Celtic Youth Team and Strathclyde Police.

1985
• 10th in the League.
• Acres Cup-did not qualify from Section 1.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in R1 to Rovers.
• Lewis Cup- lost in R1 to Harris.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost in R2 to Point.
• Sally Maclennan played for the L&H Select as a substitute against Uist & Barra.

1986
• 4th in League.
• Acres Cup-failed to qualify from Section 4.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in R2 to Ness.
• Lewis Cup-lost in S/F to Back .
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost in R1 to Ness.
• Highland Amateur-lost in R1 to North Uist.
• Donnie “Sim” Maclennan and DM Maclennan played for L&H Select in game against Inverness Caley.  DM Maclennan, Robbie Mackenzie and Donnie “Sim” Maclennan played for Select v West Highland Select.

1987
• 3rd place in League.
• Reached Final of Acres Cup; lost in final to Aths.
• Jock Stein Cup – lost in S/F to Ness.
• Lewis Cup – lost in R1 to Aths.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup – lost in S/F to Ness.
• Hi-Am Cup-lost in R1 to Aths.
• Very strong team including Robbie Mackenzie, Calum Mackinnon, Aonghus Atch, David Libby, Angus Beattie, Dan & Angie Beag Macmillan, Donnie Sim, Calum Murdo Mackenzie, Iain David, Evil, Gordon Macrae, Hector Martin, Sally, Aosy, Lachie, Aonghus Iain Maclennan and Neil Shaw.
• Robbie scored 43 goals in this season. 
• This team got 13 League wins and scored 68 league goals.
• During this season player Neil “Pele” Carmicheal sadly drowned off the Great Barrier Reef, Australia.

1988
• 3rd in the League.
• 3 S/F (Acres, Jock Stein and Lewis Cups).
• Won Eilean an Fhraoich Cup.  First of 4 consecutive wins.
• Lost in R1 of Hi-Am cup to Southend.
• Evel, Hector Martin, Robbie Mackenzie and Dan Macmillan all played for L&H Select in 3-0 win over West Highland Select.
• This season was the beginning of a high water mark for Lochs FC with the first of 4 consecutive wins in the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup.
• Robbie Mackenzie scored 42 goals this season making it an amazing 85 goals in two seasons.
• Conceded only 1.1 goals per game, a record only beaten 3 times in club history.

1989
• 2nd in League.
• 14 wins in League, only lost one game in League, Average number of goals lost per League game was 0.7 the best League record ever.
• Did not qualify from their section of the Acres Boys Club Cup.
• Playing at Creagan Dubh again after years at the Leurbost School Pitch.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in final.
• Lewis Cup-lost in R1 to Rovers.
• Won Eilean an Fhraoich Cup for 2nd consecutive season beating Point 4-0 in final with Robbie Mackenzie scoring a hat-trick.
• Hi-Am Cup lost in R3 to Ness.
• Robbie Mackenzie top scorer with 24 goals.
• Hector Martin and Dan Macmillan played for L&H Select v Brora Rangers.  Hector , Dan and Evel played against West Highland Select.
Hector, Dan and Jordan Mackay played against Uist & Barra.
• This was one of the best Lochs sides ever finishing 2nd in the League and playing in two cup finals.


1990
• 6th in the League.
• Two Cup Finals.
• Acres Cup lost 2-1 to Ness.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup beat Harris 3-2.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in S/F to Ness.
• Lewis Cup-lost in S/F to Point.
• Hi-Am Cup lost in R2 to Point.
• Top scorer Dan Macmillan with 19 goals.
• This season marked the third consecutive win in the Eilean an Fhraoich Cup.

1991
• 3rd in the League.
• Acres Boys Club Cup-did not qualify from Section B.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in R1 to Ness.
• Lewis Cup-lost in R2 to Point.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-won 1-0 v Point making it four in a row a unique achievement in Lewis & Harris football.
• Hi-Am Cup- lost in R2 to Aths.
• Top scorer was John “Jordan” Mackay with 11 goals.
• Autumn Cup-lost in S/F to Back.

1992
• 4th in League.
• Acres BC Cup- did not qualify from Section C.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in final to Ness.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost in final to Point.  Five consecutive finals.
• Lewis Cup-lost in S/F to Ness.
• Hi-Am Cup-lost in R2 to Middle District from Uist.
• Top scorer John “Jordan” Mackay with 12 goals.
• Hector Martin played for the L&H Select against Uist & Barra and Park Wanderers from Glasgow in the Midsummer Tournament at Lionacleit.  Ian Murdo “Evel” Matheson was playing for Park Wanderers.

1993
• 5th in the League.
• Won the Acres BC Cup beating Point on penalties.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in R2 to Point.
• Made S/F of Lewis and Eilean an Fhraoich Cups losing to Ness and Back respectively.
• Hi-Am Cup – lost in R1 to Point.
• Jordan was again the top scorer.
• Hector Martin and Jordan Mackay both played in the Midsummer Tournament against Ross Shire and Wester Ross in Skye.
• Evel, Hector, Jordan and Murray all played for the L&H Select against St. Johnstone.


1994
• 4th in the League.
• Acres Cup-did not qualify from Section A.
• Jock Stein Cup-lost in final to Ness.
• Lewis Cup-lost to Back in Rd 2.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-beat Back 2-1 in final.
• Hi-Am-lost in R1 to Carloway.
• Jordan top scorer again with 9 goals.

1995
• Lochs won the Lewis & Harris League for the first time.
• Lochs won the Jock Stein Cup for the first time.
• Acres BC Cup-did not qualify from section C.
• Lewis Cup-lost in R1 to Ness.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cuo-lost in S/F to Back.
• Hi-Am-lost in R4 to Ness.
• Top scorer-Daniel Richardson with 26 goals.

• Lost in R4 of Hi-Am to Inverness British Legion a team that featured former Rangers player Billy Urquhart.

• In the Hi-Am Cup they beat Point, Benbecula, Muir of Ord, Golspie Stafford, Culbokie, harlequins and Athletic.

•  Jock Stein Cup-lost to Point in S/F.
• Eilean an Fhraoich Cup-lost to Back in S/F.
• Cuach a’Choop-lost in final to Harris.
• Top scorer was Don Lava with 35 goals.
• Scored 164 goals in total in all competitions in the season.
• 16 wins in the League, 2nd best total by a Lochs side.
• Lost no League games, only done by this side and 2009, 2010 sides.
• Concede only 14 goals in the League, 2nd best ever by a Lochs side.
• Scored an average of 4.3 goals per League game only bettered in 2006 and 2010.
• Concede only 0.8 goals per League game the 2nd best in Lochs history.
