Armourment & Costume

1st century legionary kit, as worn by J.Roberts on the 2008 charity walk from Wareham along the old Roman road through Wareham Forest, up to Woodbury Hillfort. Clearly visible here is the "Jockey Cap" style helmet, used extensively by the invasion forces of 43AD, which predates the better known Gallic helmets used by many reenactors today.

Above is another of our "Jockey Cap" helmets, this one with reinforced leather face-guards and bronze frontal ridge.

Above, authentic Jockey style helmet. This pattern was developed from Celtic helmets of nearly identical type (pictured below) testifying to the significant advancements of Celtic military ingenuity.
