KLB Camanachd in Northern Ireland
29 June 2011

Last week 10 KLB Camanachd players headed off to Northern Ireland as part of the KLB High School Residential Trips Week. The group were based in Belfast but did lots of travelling throughout the country. There was a trip to Derry, a trip to the Giant's Causeway as well as karting and zorbing. The highlight of the week however was a trip to the Eoghan Rua Gaelis Sports Club where we received a really warm welcome. Our lot first demonstrated shinty to their Irish counterparts who then demostrated Hurley to us. We then got them all togther and got them to swap sticks, Duncan and the Irish coach, Schira then coached eachothers pupils on how to use the different sticks. We then mixed them up into two teams and played a game. It was very enjoyable and very humerous and all done in excellent spirit. We were then invited to stay for dinner and to watch a senior Camogie (ladies version of Hurley) match. As they were short a player Sophie was aksed to play Camogie for the home team which she duly did inder the name of Dierdre and had a great wee game. The whole experience was one not to be forgotten. It was a great week in ireland - so thanks Ireland, we'll be back!
