We had a great day of Shinty last Saturday, it was very tough but enjoyed by all. We had many more younger players than the other teams and also had no subs so were put at a slight disadvantage. We also had to rope in Duncan and Ben (never played before) at the very last minute so we could field two teams of six. In hindsight we would have fielded just one team and used the others as subs as it was tough going, almost 80 minutes of shinty with only a 3 minute break between each game! But, as usual our guys played their hearts out and did us proud. Well done everyone who took part.

The North Development Competition for senior teams began last Saturday, 21st May, at Braeview Park, Beauly with representations from three developing teams.

New side, Strathspey Camanachd, along with Uist and Kinlochbervie turned out for the tournament.  Lewis and Navar unfortunately were unable to attend, so the format was changed to six-a-sides with both Strathspey and Kinlochbervie fielding two sides.

At the end of play, it was Strathspey’s ‘upper’ side who finished top, with Uist snatching second place.

Highland Development Officer, Russell Jones, said, “There were some excellent displays of shinty and some highly competitive matches on show at Beauly.  Despite being down by two teams, I believe the day was a success and the participants adapted well to the change in format, especially the Kinlochbervie players  who fielded two sides with no subs!  Along with the participants, a huge vote of thanks should go to referee, Alan Purdie, and Beauly Shinty Club for hosting the day at their excellent facility.”

The KLB Partcipants - still smiling at the end!
