BBQ at Cape Wrath Challenge
22 May 2009

Last night saw the shinty club in charge of the barbecue on Balnakeil Beach at the Cape Wrath Challenge. We arrived in the middle of a torrential rain shower but thankfully it dried up and turned into a pleasant evening. There was a great turn out of support from the shinty players and Mums and Dads and of course all the runners from the Cape Wrath Challenge. The bus taking the S1 and S2 players who were taking part in the tournament in Bught Park took a detour and brought them all up to Durness to enjoy the festivities. The older players set up a goal on the beach and charged £1 for 3 attempts at "Beat the Goalie". Only 1 person during the whole evening managed to score three goals and win £5; well done Uisdean Morrison, Durness. Marty Mackay, Durness, was brave enough to take a turn in goals while the players took shots but after Kyle whistled one passed his head he didn't waste any time in deciding it wasn't for him! The players also challenged the crowd to "The Longest Shy", which was won by Stephen MacKinnon, Durness. We had a very successful night with a profit of just under £320 for shinty funds. A huge thanks to all who helped at the BBQ and who sent lots of lovely food. Well done all the shinty players for the hard work put in and huge thanks for the great way you represented Kinlochbervie Camanachd - it was remarked on by a visitor how polite and friendly you all were - thank you.

Durness Head Teacher, Graham Bruce takes on Dodie in goals!
