KLB v WICK - an even affair!
08 December 2008

On a very wet and cold Saturday, Klb Camanachd played host to league newcomers Wick Camanachd.  It was a very well-supported game with lots of parents and families braving the weather to cheer on the team.  We started off with an under 14s game with Sophie Clark leading the way in defence as Captain for the match.  Klb started off strongly and were 2-0 up within 5 minutes thanks to Connor Munro.  Klb could have scored a few more due to some fierce shooting by Struan Kish but Wicks defence held out until the 18th minute when Iain Allison scored his 2nd goal in 2 games then Mark Dorrian got the teams' 4th on 27 minutes just before half time.  The first half finished 4-0 to Klb but Wick had some good spells and some great shots at goal that were stopped by the defensive pairing of Sophie and Iain and keeper Scott Paterson.  Wick came storming back in the second half and got 2 goals within 4 minutes to make it 4-2.  Klb couldn't cope with the sustained pressure and found themselves down 5-4 after 20 minutes of the 2nd half.  This woke the players up and after some vocal encouragement from the sidelines they got themselves back into the game.  Iain scored his 2nd and the equaliser for the team on 26 minutes.  Both teams fought hard and made plenty of substitutions to try and get the edge in the final few minutes but it ended with a very well deserved and hard fought 5-5 scoreline.  Well done to both teams for playing good shinty, hopefully the return game next term will be just as exciting!
