KLB v Thurso Match Report
08 October 2008

Last Saturday saw the first game of the Far North League 08/09 being played, with Kinlochbervie Camanachd playing host to Thurso Junior Shinty Club.  What started off as a wet and windy winter’s day quickly turned into a bright sunny afternoon with fantastic displays of shinty skills and sportsmanship being shown.  With lots of family and friends there to support, both teams made an immediate impact with KLB going 2-1 up within 5 minutes courtesy of goals from Nathan Kish and Donald MacKay for KLB and Iain Morrison for Thurso.  The remaining 25 minutes were as fast and furious as the first 5 with KLB finishing the first half 8-1 up thanks to goals from Donald MackKay, Oliver Taveras, Taylor MacKay (2) and Connor Munro (2).  Thurso’s young players did a fantastic job defending and keeping the score from going any further. Thursos’ keeper did brilliantly by stopping a shot from Taveras with his chest and he now has the mark to prove just how brave he was!  The second half started in the same way with  Taveras scoring his 2nd and 3rd in the first 4 minutes and D MacKay scoring his 3rd on 5 minutes.  Thurso came back at KLB strongly after that and showed that they have the skill and determination to keep fighting with some great defending and a goal from James Hawes to make it 11-2.  KLB kept up the momentum with some of their younger players taking centre stage with goals from Hamish Armes-Harris, T MacKay (2) and Iain Allison.  Thurso again came back at KLB with 2 fantastic goals from Rorie Stewart.  The game finished with an amazing solo run from defence to goals from D MacKay which earned him his 4th goal of the game followed by a goal in the final minute by Mark Dorrian.  The final score line was 17-4 to KLB but the real highlight of the afternoon was the effort, commitment and sportsmanship shown by all the players of both teams throughout the entire game.  The next games are on Saturday 8 November with Farr playing host to Kinlochbervie and Thurso playing host to Wick.
