The following three conversational extracts are true and recent; they are between psychiatrists and their patients during outpatients appointments.

Male psychiatrist – ‘How have you been?’
Male patient – ‘Not too bad. Something’s worrying me a bit…,.I’ve been collecting and playing with toy soldiers…….going back to my childhood sort of’.
Psychiatrist – ‘Funny thing…..I’m doing the same’.
Patient – ‘Swop places?’

##################################################################################

This female patient spent most of her appointment time helping this psychiatrist to enter her details on a blank piece of paper as he did not have her records. Eventually…………..

Male psychiatrist – ‘How are you?’

Female patient – ‘I’ve been very depressed’.

Psychiatrist – ‘When you wake in the morning, you open your curtains and look to the sky; if it is cloudy and raining you feel depressed; when you look up and the sky is blue and the sun is shining you feel happy.

Patient thinks to herself……….What planet is he on!

She walks away.

##################################################################################

For the past three years this frail female patient has suffered intolerable back pain which has affected her mentally.
Male psychiatrist – ‘How have you been?’
Female patient – ‘The pain is so bad I want to kill myself!’
Psychiatrist – ‘Think happy thoughts.’

Comment – There is no answer to that is there!!

A letter to Jason Watkins, a dear friend

Dear Jason,
It seems a while since I last wrote to you my good friend. It also seems many tears bring maturity and growing up to keep pace with each bad experience we encounter. I cannot begin to comprehend how many tears you did flow during the years of kidney failure and the ordeal during and after your kidney transplant surgery. Yet you still find the courage and maturity to phone me and ask, “How are you Kay?” Good on you boyo, you have guts! We both understand each other and share similar views and opinions; I am so glad we have kept in touch my dear friend. May your God walk with you.

Love-Kay
