Isobel Fraser Newsletter

A very warm welcome to our March Newsletter

Another very long month with occasional wintery sunshine and Inverness seems to be the only part of the UK not immobilised by snow, which makes a pleasant change.  Been watching the carnage on TV and having a little chuckle to myself.

I’m sure we all can’t wait for Spring to come and with it some very much needed heat!

What’s been happening in February

We celebrated Valentine’s Day with strawberries dipped in chocolate (they didn’t look as good as they should, much to Brenda’s horror) but I have it on very good authority that they tasted delicious.

We had a wonderful concert from Music in Hospitals and Care on the 24th February and a lovely afternoon was had by all.  They were both very talented and we would love to have them back soon.

We had a visit from Marie Todd our local MSP for Childcare and Early Years on Monday 26th February, together with the Crown Nursery children for a mammoth bubble blowing session and photo shoot for an article in the Executive Magazine, copies of which I have no doubt we will get after publishing.

Kirsty Morag our Deputy Manager celebrated her 25th birthday and Laurice celebrated her 21st, with a lovely bottle of champagne from Fran.  Many happy returns to you both.

Fran held her first Residents Meeting in the lounge, updating you all on what’s been happening and to give you an opportunity to have your say and voice any concerns or suggestions you may have.

What’s New for March?

We will be entertained by Denys McNair, our friendly fiddler, on the afternoon of Monday 6th as he makes his monthly visit and next month he is going to be brushing up on his singing skills and we will have a good old sing-a-long.

We are also having our debut performance from new musical guests Gill & John from Drumnadrochit, who are Laura’s friends and are both very talented.  John plays the guitar and Gill plays the banjo and sings beautifully.

We are keen to get out and about again now that the cold spell is hopefully over and are always keen to hear your suggestions of places to visit if you have any particular preferences.

Our wet room upgrade is almost complete and our new bath is now fully operational much to the delight of all of us.

Mother’s Day

Mothering Sunday is on Sunday 11th March and we are expecting some of our residents to get spoiled by their children, with visits, days out, flowers and chocolates.  Happy Mother’s Day to all the special Mummies out there from all of us.

Birthdays this month

The charming and very handsome Mr Farquhar MacRae celebrated his 85th birthday on 7th March and his daughter arranged a birthday cake and our fabulous Brenda decorated the dining table with balloons and banners. I dare say a dram or two may have been involved.  Cathie Douglas also celebrated her 93rd birthday on Mother’s Day, the 11th March and her son John brought her in a lovely bunch of flowers.  Hilda Hickman will be 98 on the 14th and Elma Cook will be 85 on the 22nd March.  I’m sure you will join us all in wishing them all a very Happy Birthday.

New Residents

A very warm welcome to Muriel, Hilda and Sheila our new residents who have joined us recently.  We hope they will all be very happy here and we look forward to getting to know them all better over the coming weeks.

Management

As some of you will have no doubt in the past shopped in the local Co op, and maybe some of your family still do! Each year they support charities and this year we are very fortunate to be one of them. We have received the first of four payments from them, and this will initially be spent on the garden. Now that we are heading towards April and hopefully some nice weather, Michael and Bob are eager to blow away the cobwebs and start work in the garden – we are looking forward to a burst of colour!

A date for the diary – we will be holding a silent auction on the 27th of April at 7pm, it will be an opportunity for a social get together with staff, family and friends. On the evening you will be able to enjoy a glass of wine and some finger food. On this occasion we do not require any donations, so please come along and join us!
