Historic win for City
Inverness City continued their winning run by beating Fochabers in their first historic game in the Elginshire cup. Co-manager Pollard said “The boys performed much better this week and this was also a much improved Fochabers side since the last time we played them”. “We didn’t take anything for granted this week and the boys worked well to grind out a result. There’s no such thing as an easy game in juniors and this one was no exception. I’m sure the crowd enjoyed this game but when games are this open it’s enough to turn the managers grey.”
The game started the more brightly for City when on the 10th minute Turner picked up a deflected shot inside the box and smashed into the bottom left hand corner to give City the perfect start.
Six minutes later Miller missed a great chance after some great play was set up for him from Jamie Fraser and Turner.
Fochabers found their way back in to the game on the 25th minute when a fantastic through ball which caused the City defence and keeper to be caught in two minds to which the Fochabers forward didn’t hesitate to score the equaliser.
The young City side were determined to make amends and it only took them 10 minutes to recapture the lead when Jamie Fraser flicked on the cross for wee Gary Miller to head home at the back post.
The second half was just as the first as both sides were wanting to progress to the next round. Fochabers big forward turned the City defence and hit an unstoppable shot which again gave them the equaliser.
Three minutes later Keith Mason was up ended on the edge of the box. Turner stood up to curl the free kick to the top corner, but the Fochabers keeper pulled of a fantastic save.
On the 69th minute the tables turned for the poor Fochabers keeper. Pearce hit a weak shot which the keeper managed to mis-judge which squeezed underneath him.
Again for the second week in a row the in form Pearce claimed the winner. The final score was 3-2 to City.

Pollard added “We look forward to another cup this week when we travel to our Super League opposition Maud in the second round of the North Regional Cup. From what we have found out so far they seem to be doing very well, so this will be great test for the boys” Comment from specsavers at 18:34 on 26 January 2009. im sorry but what game have you been watching?'the in form pearce'....who ever writes these match reports, are they watching the game?!!Comment from City TID at 21:41 on 26 January 2009. He's scored 3 goals in 2 games - that seems pretty 'in form' to me! Not sure what game you were watching - perhaps YOU need to go to Specsavers!Comment from Fan at 22:54 on 26 January 2009. i wouldnt quite say in form my self but 3 goals in 2 games speaks for itself, not that i would of said much about his later goal, would of thought a keeper could easily of saved the weak attempt!?Add your comment Please note that whenever you submit something which may be publicly shown on a website you should take care not to make any statements which could be considered defamatory to any person or organisation. | ||
