MATCH REPORTS

V RAF LOSSIEMOUTH 17TH JANUARY 2009

by Mike Pollard - Co-manager - 11:40 on 19 January 2009

City 2 RAF Lossiemouth 1

City keep up title challenge

On a very rare sunny afternoon at the Northern Meeting Park Inverness City kept their title challenge alive with a 2-1 win over the visiting RAF Lossiemouth team.

Co Manager Pollard said "This was not one of our best performances but at the end of the day any manager would take the 3 points. The positive side to this is that we can still play poorly and still manage to grind out a result."

Pollard also added "With other results going our way we have put ourselves back in to contention. It's also great to see the local support we're getting and this is adding to the lads doing so well. Which young player wouldn't want to play in front of a good support?"

With so much at stake this could have been a banana skin for Inverness City. The Inverness side started brighter out the two sides when Jamie Fraser managed to blast the ball over the bar from point blank range.

After 24 minutes Keith Mason came close after a maze run in which he clattered the Airmen's bar with a long range effort.

The City support only had to wait twelve more minutes for the first goal. Gary Miller swung a great cross from City's left side for Pearce to slide the ball home to put City ahead.

In the second half RAF Lossiemouth came out looking the hungrier of the two sides and managed to find City's woodwork after just six minutes gone.

The RAF side were pushing hard for the equaliser and they received their just rewards in the 61st minute with a powerful header which found the net.

The Inverness side had suddenly realised they weren't going to get every thing their own way. City's young side had to roll up their sleeves and start to work to find the winner. This came on the 72nd minute when Miller's corner was flicked on by Jamie Fraser for Pearce to volley home at the back post to claim his second and the winner for City.

Team: Young, McDonald, Allan, Mapplebeck, (MacLennan 75) K Fraser, J Fraser, K Mason, (D Beaton 60) Miller, Pearce, Turner, McNiven (Murdoch 56)

Subs not used: P Beaton, Graham

"We have a break from league business next week, with a cup-tie against Fochabers at home for the third consecutive week."

i was greatly impressed by the performance maybe not in the manner we played at but the way we grinded out the result. I was very impressed with j fraser in the second half he just kept working away and driving the team on from the middle of the park, but his miss? Am sure he will b having nightmares about that. Also big jordan and andrew allan at the back looked very strong and composed at the back. With results going our way at the weekend, maybe the title can b achieved. Keep up the good work.

Any truth in the rumour linking Graham and Pollard with the vacant managers post at ICT? They certainly couldnt do any worse than the departing duo of Brewster and Thomson!

I believe Mike fancies a crack at it so he has been seen sniffing down at the Tulloch stadium all the best to him!!! Pollard for ICT.
