Co manager Pollard said “ We didn’t have to much time to prepare for this game due to weather conditions, but when the boys did train the gave us every thing they had which is more than any Manger could ask for.”
Pollard continued by saying “We are so happy with the boys with the effort and determination they are showing just now. At times we played some great football in bad conditions and I think we did enough to deserve the three points.”
The conditions were hard for both teams with blistering rain and strong gale winds. With the weather so bad it was only a matter of time for the pitch to be come very heavy.
City started with a purpose and in the 17th minute Kevin Fraser picked the ball up well outside the Whitehills box. He wasn’t closed down quickly enough as he curled the ball into the top corner to give City the lead.
With both sides having only half chances this looked to be a low scoring game. But Whitehills were not the type of side to give up and in the 42nd minute they found the equaliser after City’s defence was caught napping. The ball was played wide and the advancing forward had an easy tap in to give Young no chance in goals.
This couldn’t have been a worse time to concede a goal but City pushed forward straight away and only two minutes later restored the lead through Kevin Mapplebeck. The ball was swung in from the left side and Mapplebeck timed his run to leap higher than every one else to head in to the top corner.
The second half saw Whitehills push forward looking for the equaliser again. This caused the game to open up and on the 56th minute Whitehills found their second goal.
Both sides managed to hit the wood work, but City looked slightly more dangerous going forward. City got the winner on the 65th minute when Turner slid in to poke the ball past the advancing Whitehills keeper.
As the same as the first half, both sides didn’t really managed to make any real chances. City saw the game out and took all three points.
