Inverness City’s form improved this week where an unfortunate RAF Lossiemouth team were on the receiving end. Co-manager Mike Pollard said “Things are starting to click in to place. It’s nice to see the boys really gelling together. We only just beat RAF Lossiemouth 2-1 at the start of the season which really puts this game in to perspective.” Pollard added “We have to try and carry this form on next week when we welcome our first local derby match against Nairn St Ninian. We are starting to close the gap at the top of the table, but we know there’s a long way to go.”
The game started brightly for City when McCraw latched on to a turner pass to put City 1-0 up. City’s second came from scrappy defending by RAF Lossiemouth when Turner picked up a loose ball to smash it home to give City a two goal advantage. Towards the end of the first half, City fell asleep and on the 35th minute RAF Lossiemouth managed to pull one back.
City seemed to go up an extra gear in the second half when Bannerman combined with Pearce in some great play to put McCraw in for his second in the 48th minute.
Just two minutes later MacDonald put McCraw in for his hat-trick but the goal was dis-allowed for being offside. On the 65th minute City were awarded a corner where Bannerman timed his run to perfection to head City 4-1 up. Two minutes later Maclennan scored probably the goal of the season when the wee man bulleted his header on the edge of the box in to the top corner to put City 5-1 ahead.
McCraw was in a determined mood and his persistence paid off when a shot from Pearce wasn’t held by the Lossie keeper and McCraw pounded it in to claim his hat-trick.
Pearce, who was controlling the game, got his just rewards when his long range effort went under the Lossie keeper to make the score 7-1. Top goal-scorer Sanderson didn’t want to be left out and with only 9 minutes to go he found the net to take City’s tally up to 8. With only 5 minutes left of the game, City let Lossie in for a sloppy second goal to make the final score 8-2 to City.
