Inverness City’s first experience in the Scottish Junior Cup came to a heart wrenching end on Saturday. Co-manager Mike Pollard said “The boys couldn’t have put any more effort in to this game and they proved they could match a very impressive Blackburn Utd side. I really feel for the lads, as they gave everything they had. We were very proud of their performance and can honestly say they didn’t let anyone down. The positive side to this is after the last few weeks we’ve had, we’ve now found our form again. We are back to league business this week and need to forget our disappointment and concentrate on the on coming game”
The game kicked off with both sides having high expectations. This wasn’t a dirty game but tackles were hard but fair. With both sides giving everything, the chances were few and far between. It was 20 minutes in to the game when the first real chance came, which resulted in a goal from Blackburn. A fantastic cross from City’s left side was met with a cracking header to leave Kerr with no chance. City’s first good chance didn’t come until the 44th minute when Pearce saw his shot brilliantly saved.
City believed they could get a result away from home, however this was looking less likely when Blackburn were awarded a penalty in the 51st minute when Mapplebeck upended a Blackburn forward. However, Kerr came to the rescue when he saved the penalty. One minute later Kerr’s goal kick went straight to a Blackburn forward who wasted no time in making the score 2-0. City then started to dominate the game but lady luck was not on their side when they saw the Blackburn keeper pull off another miraculous save and then for Jamie Fraser to head the ball over the bar from point blank range. The well-organised Blackburn side saw the game out to win 2-0. Comment from Big Swinger at 19:16 on 05 November 2008. As Swinger and Michael said, you looked a better side than some we've played from the North Region in the past and made it a really enjoyable Cup tie. It's always good to see two teams play the game in the correct spirit, particularly when there's so much at stake. Best of luck in your promotion bid this season!Add your comment Please note that whenever you submit something which may be publicly shown on a website you should take care not to make any statements which could be considered defamatory to any person or organisation. | ||
